What must I do to be blessed?

Nobody wants to be a failure everyone want to Be successful. Every student wants to pass his or her examinations. Every businessman want his business to boom. Every worker wants promotions. Every bride want to be blessed with healthy children. Is it therefore reasonable to ask the question, "what must I do to be
blessed?"

Our aim is to answer this question from the word of God. Psalm 1:1-3 says, blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,  nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not either; And whatsoever he does shall prosper."

We shall therefore go into the word of God and meditate so that we can find out what we must do in order to be blessed.  First and foremost,  to be blessed you must be saved.  This is necessary because psalm 32:1-2 says, blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,  whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity,  And in whose spirit  there is no guile."

Therefore, our sins must be forgiven before we can expect blessings from God.  This is because any 'blessings' we had while still in sin would be taken away from us.
Such could be in form of sickness, accidents, or unreasonable spending in parties, or drinking spree.  Therefore,  not until we are saved, we cannot expect blessings from God. The devil,  who is the master of the unsaved souls, Will take such blessings away if we have not been saved.

The second condition for the blessings is to live a godly life.  Isaiah 56:1-2 says,  "thus saith the Lord, keep ye judgement, and do justice: for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it;  that keepeth the Sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil."

A good example of a man who was blessed as a result of living a godly life is Daniel. After his enemies had thrown him into the lion's den for refusing to compromise his faith, he not came out of the lion's den unhurt but he was also promoted afterwards.

Another thing you must do to be blessed is to put All your trust in God. Psalm 40:4 says,  "blessed is the man that walketh the Lord his trust,  and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. "

Also, to be blessed, you must form the habit of helping the poor.  An example of someone who was blessed as a result of helping the poor is the widow of zarephath, who by entertaining Elijah with the last bit of food in her house. Survived the three and a half years of famine without suffering any shortage of food at all.

To be blessed  you must live an undefiled life.  Psalm 11:1 says, "in the Lord I put my trust: how say yes to my soul,  flee as a bird to your mountain?"
A good example of this is Joseph who was sold into slavery in Egypt and found favour with God and with his master potiphar because he lived a clean life.  When the wife of the master tempted him, he ran away from sin and though he was thrown into prison, he came out to become the Prime Minister of Egypt.
furthermore, you must be prepared to wait on God. Isaiah 30:18 says "and therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgement: blessed are all they that wait for him."

You have to know that when you are dealing with God, you are dealing with the kings of kings. You are dealing with the richest being in the whole universe and the most powerful. Therefore, do not hurry him and please do not be too anxious. Do not buy snuggled goods and do not take short cuts to wealth.  Remember that God's time is the best.

You must learn also to obey him.  Isaiah 1:19 says "if ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land." so you do not need any sacrifice or charm to be blessed. All you to do is to obey God.  1 Samuel 15:22 says, "and Samuel said, hath the Lord had great delight in burn offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of  the Lord?  Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of the rams."

Finally we go back to Psalm 1:1 which says, "blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  "You have to avoid three sinful classes  If you want to be blessed and retain the blessing. Firstly, you have to avoid the ungodly.  You must be separated from the ungodly people because the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:14 that you are not to be "uequally yoke together with unbelievers" in your business life, in your choice of friends and in all ways of life.  You must be separated.

Secondly, you must avoid the class of sinners. Do not follow multitude to do evil.  Do not give bribe and do not receive.  The blessing of God come naturally and without any hardship.  If you struggle to have what God does not intend for you,  the end result can only be disaster.  Thirdly, avoid class of scornful.  Learn how to control your tongue. Recollect the wife of David who scorned her husband and became the only woman in the Bible who died barren.

Above all,  fear God and keep his commandments. Psalm 112:1 says, "praise ye the Lord.  Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments."

The greatest blessings are for God's children .  The Bible says in psalms 34:10, "the young lion do not lack,  and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. "

                 (conclusion)

Do you want to be blessed?  Learn how to love God, fear him,  obey his commandments,  trust him,  help the poor,  live a clean undefiled and godly life and then wait upon him.  It is sure that blessings, spiritual and physical, shall be your.   Amen.
