HOliness is a theme that every believer must apply if they truly want God's presence.
Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, He will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames.” 2 Peter 3v11-12 (NLT)
“Since everything here today might well be gone tomorrow, do you see how essential it is to live a holy life? Daily expect the Day of God, eager for its arrival. The galaxies will burn up and the elements melt down that day – but we’ll hardly notice.” 2 Peter 3v11-12 (MSG)
I am reminded of the verse which says “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8v36, KJV). 2 Peter 3v11-12 tells us since everything around us is going to be destroyed, it shows how necessary it is for us to live a holy and godly life. You know sometimes people will say live as if this day is your last day on earth. Let us be mindful of the fact that the Lord is coming back, but we do not know the exact day. We look forward to it with expectation, but it also means that we want to be found in Him when He returns.
Body
“And Jesus called [to Him] the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself [forget, ignore, disown, and lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross, and [joining Me as a disciple and siding with My party] follow with Me [continually, cleaving steadfastly to Me]. For whoever wants to save his [higher, spiritual, eternal] life, will lose it [the lower, natural, temporal life which is lived only on earth]; and whoever gives up his life [which is lived only on earth] for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it [his higher, spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God]. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life [in the eternal kingdom of God]? For what can a man give as an exchange (a compensation, a ransom, in return) for his [blessed] life [in the eternal kingdom of God]? For whoever is ashamed [here and now] of Me and My words in this adulterous (unfaithful) and [preeminently] sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory (splendor and majesty) of His Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8v34-38 (AMP)
Prayer
You have not called us to condemn us, or incur Your wrath, but that we might obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. We put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the helmet of salvation. We pray that You will send labourers into Your harvest, for the harvest indeed is ripe but the labourers are few, and we know that You do not want any to perish, but that all should come to repentance. We love and adore You o God, and look expectantly for the coming of our Lord. Amen
